PHOTOS: Kootenay Dance Camp, Aug 2024

Shivadam Burke and I were invited to lead at this retreat, near Nelson BC Canada, which has been an annual event for over 30 years. We were honored and delighted, and had an awesome, wonderful time. As Shivadam said, “This is already one of my favorite camps ever, owing to the sweetness of this community of dear hearts, along with the storied history of the camp itself and the beautiful surroundings…” Not to mention the laughter, the welcome, the FOOD, the time away from civilization, the Talent Show, and so much more. Highly recommended.

So this is a record of our trip. The camp itself starts halfway through, scroll down.

Our travel guitars at the airport. It was my
new koa woodTaylor Mini’s first trip and
first Dance camp and it was a champ.
Flying over fires in Montana and/or Idaho. Sadness.
Our chauffeur picked us up at the Spokane airport in a gold 1986 Mercedes. Wow.

The home of our hosts in Nelson before and after the
camp, WOW.
Different trees in Canada than in the southwest for sure.
Yep, way different.
Two sunflower pictures because I couldn’t decide which one I liked better.

Tuning. Attuning. Beautiful nearby space.
The famous orange bridge over the river/lake in Nelson BC.
The meditation hall in Nelson. The energy was powerfully still.
Shivadam and the geese in the park by the river/lake. Canadian geese, of course.
The Dance hall at Camp Koolaree, a short boat ride across the lake.
The beautiful schedule poster. Talent abounds in this area and at this camp.
The welcome gnomes.
Shivadam and the entry to the Dance hall.

The Dance space. Wow.
Darvesha told me I’d love this camp, “It’s a bunch of hippies.”
We left the camp in the big boat with much luggage. We were passed by the smaller boat with only passengers. Show offs.
Finn the boat dog sat on my guitar during the crossing. Possibly a new experience for both of them.
Bliss, probably related to the new moon zikr we attended.
And so we headed back to the US in the gold Mercedes, to the Spokane airport and eventually Phoenix. What an incredible experience.
