May 2024 is the 25th anniversary of the first Canyonlands Dance camp, held in Split Top Cave in Canyonlands National Park in May 1999. That first retreat was organized by Susan (Sheely) Ullman and others, and led by Bernie Heideman and Dave Walker. Little did we know that 25 years later, Bernie and Sky would be leading 4 retreats a year together, including spring and fall descendents of that first camp.
From one camp a year, the Canyonlands Camp quickly grew to twice a year, in the spring and the fall.
The Camp has moved locations ten times in the 25 years (hence the slogan, “Have Tent, Will Travel”). We’ve been at Split Top, outside Split Top in the Park, outside the Park at Creek Pasture, in Comb Wash, at two locations in Moab, and at four locations in Paonia (aka “Canyonlands East”).
Here are photo albums Sky has added, of various aspects of the camp.
Album 1 is locations: good where we’ve been, good where we’re going to, here.
Album 2 is people, our light-filled tribe, here.
Album 3 is the Tent, the process of getting it up, photos of Tent crews, and the luminous night Tent, here.
Album 4 is Kids, Dogs and a Turkey, sources of entertainment and laughter over the years, here.
Album 5 is Dance sessions through the years and locations, Dancers, musicians, leaders, here.
Album 6 is Meals and Entertainment (Rumi Cafe and more) – we take EAT, Dance and Pray seriously – here.
Album 7 is Campfire scenes, artwork, and photos that don’t fit into the other categories. But they’re still good. Here.
Note: Sky is either fairly inept at organizing photos in Word Press, or Word Press does not allow for an aesthetically pleasing page layout of photos. It is what it is.
