TRONCONES. Troncones is a small beach village near Zihuatanejo on the Pacific coast of Mexico. You fly into Zihua, a small and easy-to-navigate international airport, where taxis wait to drive you to Tronconces, about half an hour away along tranquil country roads. Troncones has numerous hotels from budget to extravagant, ditto restaurants. There are no loud music venues or huge resort hotels. The ocean hosts spectacular sunsets, many many pelicans and opportunities for boogie boarding (I hear snorkling is possible in some coves up the beach a ways, but didn’t have time to investigate.)
The retreat venue was a small center with two large grassy lawns, shaded by tall palm trees, to dance on. Two cats, lovely landscaping, a swimming pool, six rooms with outdoor covered kitchens, a gazebo, talkative birds, and gates right onto the beach complete the site.
We had about 26 attendees, with two Dance leaders from Mexico (Luis and Cynthia Ishtar) and two from the US (Sky and Elizabeth Dequine), along with a talented group of musicians. We danced twice a day, morning and sunset, and had afternoon offerings as well. An excursion to a nearby new retreat center, two catered meals, and onsite rapid COVID tests on arrival were also included.
We experienced a number of Mexican and South American Dances, as well as mantric ones, and offered prayers and songs as part of our gathering.
As a first bilingual Dance retreat, it was a great success, and we have plans to expand the retreat, with Darvesha, next year.
(These photos were taken by a number of people, and if I could identify them all, I would. Thanks to you all.)
