Troncones MX Dance Retreats

Background Information and Invitation!

Troncones is a small beach town on Mexico’s Pacific coast, about 30-40 minutes by taxi from Zihuatanejo. Two main streets, with no loud bars or fast traffic, lots of shops and markets with fresh fruit and veggies (also yogurt, rice milk, granola, etc, for all the alternative Gringos who have settled there), expensive restaurants and little cafes that cater to the locals, a kitty rescue house, an outdoor chess venue, a turtle rescue, and a lovely uncrowded beach for walking, whale watching, wave chasing; boogie board rentals and local hand-crafted surfboards are available too. It’s all within walking distance, so if you want a quiet small-town experience, this is it.

Our gathering place is Casa Escondida, a small retreat center right on the beach; we dance on grass under tall palm trees, listening to the birds and watching for whales. Many people stay for both retreats, taking the time between retreats to rest, play, hang out, or go to Zihautanejo for a city hit. During both retreats, evenings are free to enjoy the many excellent restaurants, live music and dancing along the vibrant main street in Troncones!

The first retreat, January 27 – February 2 (Monday – Sunday), is an international, bilingual retreat with a Dance Leader Training component.  This is a wonderful opportunity to Dance with dear Latin American leaders, coming from several countries, and to support their development with your presence, by coming to dance! Dance sessions will be focalized by U.S. Mentors Darvesha Victoria MacDonald and Elizabeth Dequine, and Mexican Mentors Cynthia Ishtar and Luis Vizcaino, along with  participating international Mentors and Mentors-in-Training, leaders and musicians. Everything is presented in both Spanish and English. All-camp Dance sessions are in the mornings and late afternoons. Mid afternoons are optional Dance Leader Training sessions, open to everyone.  It’s a beautiful multi-cultural experience with heart-warming empowerment of emerging international leaders, and a seeding of our Dances and Walks in the country that so abundantly hosts and provides for us.  Two catered group meals are included in the retreat cost.

The second retreat, February 5 – 9 (Wednesday – Sunday), is a deepening retreat, led by mentors Sky Roshay and Shivadam Adam Burke, and mentor-in-training Jen Friedman, all very experienced leaders and musicians with deep attunements and a capacity for guiding the circle with grace, depth and joy; Dance instruction will be in English, with translations as necessary, and guest leaders and musicians will join us. Morning and late afternoon Dance sessions leave mid-day and evenings for resting, exploring Troncones, playing in the ocean, connecting with others, playing music or enjoying Casa Escondida’s gazebo, birds, swimming pool and sala (covered patio). Two catered group meals are included in the retreat cost.

Zihautanejo has a sweet small international airport that is easy to navigate; we will send everyone a form where you can enter your arrival date/time and a link to the spreadsheet so you can connect with others to share a taxi to Troncones. There is also a webpage with lodging options (most all within walking distance of the retreat site), and Wayne can help you with that if you need. He can also answer questions about money changing (there is one ATM machine in Troncones, but apparently the ones in Zihau are less expensive, and there are other hacks as well), lodging options, food availability and so on. Welcome info about each retreat will be sent to you after you register. You do not need to be able to speak Spanish to attend either retreat!

So much is uncertain in these times, so besides eating dessert first, consider coming to Mexico to be with beloveds in two languages, except for hugs and laughter, which are the same in any language. We hope to see you there!
